Hindustan Zinc’s Chanderiya Lead-Zinc Smelter (CLZS) Unit earned certification for SA8000: 2014 Standard by RINA

Udaipur : Hindustan Zinc, India’s only and the world’s second-largest integrated zinc-lead-silver producer, has earned ISO certification for its Chanderiya Lead-Zinc Smelter (CLZS) Unit in SA8000:2014 Standard by RINA. This is the first certification, which represents a significant step forward in the CLZS Unit’s ESG journey.

SA8000 is based on ISO standards. As a result, it is easier for companies to carry out the requirements and effectively implement the standard in their company. It is also based on the principles of international human rights norms described in the International Labour Organization conventions, as well as the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The SA8000-2014 standard measures social performance in eight areas essential to workplace social accountability, anchored by a management system element that drives continuous improvement in all areas of the standard. It is appreciated by brands and industry leaders for its rigorous approach to achieving the highest quality of social compliance in their supply chains without affecting business interests.

The standard encourages organisations of all sizes, industries, and countries to develop, maintain, and implement socially responsible and acceptable working practices. The programme provides a comprehensive framework for organisations to demonstrate their commitment to fair treatment and management practices with regard to their employees or workers. The criteria for the standard were developed from various industry and corporate codes in order to make it relevant and useful. In contrast to many other international standards, SA8000 uses a management system-inspired approach to measure social performance and continuous development.
