Udaipur : Effective communication and language skills are fundamental for human connectivity. In the pursuit of empowering individuals with special needs and facilitating their integration into mainstream society, the role of sign language is pivotal. In observance of the International Week of Deaf people, Hindustan Zinc, through their flagship project, Jeevan Tarang, organized a series of activities and awareness sessions for more than400 students and 200 Youth from Abhilasha Vidyalaya (Udaipur), Badhir Senior Secondary School (Ajmer), and Mook Badhir Senior Secondary School (Bhilwara).
Professionally conducted sessions on the history of sign language were delivered by NDS trainers to raise awareness about its origins and significance to more than 600 students and trainees. This training aims to enhance the ability of students to perform daily tasks, communicate, and understand Indian Sign Language (ISL). Sensitization sessions were also conducted, emphasizing the importance of ISL and the deaf community, extending their reach to Zinc Kaushal trainees and the parents of these students. The interactive sessions were complemented by engaging activities, including quizzes, drawing competitions, storytelling, and sports, with enthusiastic participation from the students.
Hindustan Zinc remains committed to offering equal opportunities to children from diverse backgrounds through its Jeevan Tarang program. This skill enhancement program primarily focuses on strengthening schools, providing technology access to visually impaired children, offering Indian sign language training for educators, computer literacy, English language-oriented skills, and workshops on menstrual health and hygiene. Out of the 700+ visually and auditorily impaired children enrolled in this program to date, approximately 600 have successfully acquired proficiency in Indian Sign Language (ISL) through a dedicated curriculum.
